"Studying Brain Exercise Programs: How Scientists Determine Efficacy"
Have you ever wondered how scientists test brain exercise programs to determine whether they work? vibrantBrains
welcomes Ronald Ruff, Ph.D. to the May Science Salon Series. Dr. Ruff,a neuropsychologist and rehabilitation psychologist, participated in the original studies to test the Posit Science Brain Fitness Program Classic. He will explain the steps involved in conducting a scientific study that examines whether a computer-based brain exercise program yields positive results. Dr. Ruff will also discuss the basic theory behind skill learning versus memory retraining.
Dr. Ruff is a clinical neuropsychologist and rehabilitation psychologist; he has a private practice in San Francisco. Currently, Dr. Ruff serves on the editorial boards of several scholarly journals and has been elected a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the National Academy of Neuropsychology, and also served as President. He was appointed by the Governor of California to the Board of Psychology.
